Which Scooter Should I Choose?
Guide: how to find the right scooter for your needs
Today there is a wide range of scooters, each suited to its own purpose. For some, a scooter is a great, healthy way to get from A to B; for others it is a piece of sports equipment used to live the skate culture and keep challenging themselves and their friends with new tricks.
At ScootWorld, as scooter specialists, we have a bit of everything. Here you will find a range of these types of scooter, among others:
Stunt scooters - Scooters for transport - Scooters for trampolines - Three-wheeled scooters
But which scooter should you choose if you are buying one for the first time? That is what we try to answer on this page.
WHEN THE SCOOTER IS MAINLY FOR TRANSPORT
A scooter is a really good means of transport that helps develop children's and teenagers' motor skills. In fact, a great many adults use a scooter to get around today too.
If you already know that you are mainly looking for a scooter for transport, choose one that gives you the greatest possible comfort and riding pleasure. Transport scooters usually have considerably bigger wheels than, for example, scooters built for tricks.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF A TRANSPORT SCOOTER?
A scooter is a fun alternative to walking or cycling from one place to another. It is of course faster than walking – but it also needs a fairly even surface, although the wheels are designed to handle bumps up to a point. If you have a route you regularly walk or ride that is not too long and where the roads are not too busy, a transport scooter is a great choice on days when it does not rain. Compared with a bike, a scooter also has the advantage of being easy to carry and store when you arrive. You do not need to lock it: just tuck it under your arm and put it somewhere out of the way until you head back.
When should I choose a transport scooter?
Choose a transport scooter if you are not interested in doing lots of different tricks. If the main purpose is getting around, you might as well enjoy the extra riding pleasure and speed of a slightly faster scooter with bigger, softer wheels that carry you forward on the many types of surface found in most towns and cities.

SCOOTERS FOR TRICKS
These specially built scooters are for you if you like to challenge yourself with tricks at different levels. Unlike scooters that are mainly for transport, this type usually has considerably smaller wheels, which are also harder. That makes them a little less comfortable to ride – but it also makes them far better suited to the physical loads they must withstand when used for repeated jumps and tricks with heavy pressure on the frame.
Still, many people choose to use their stunt scooter for transport too, as it often looks a bit cooler than a classic scooter.
THE PHYSICAL ADVANTAGES OF A GOOD STUNT SCOOTER
A stunt scooter is generally built for very heavy loads. That said, a stunt scooter is never stronger than its weakest component, and the many different tricks you can do set different demands on what your scooter must withstand.
First of all there are the jumps, which naturally put demands on the wheels. But the same goes for the bearings and the deck your wheels are mounted on. It is no good if the quality of your scooter drops noticeably after just 20-30 tricks. That is why it is important to buy a purpose-built stunt scooter if you know that at some point you would like to learn some cool tricks. Beyond jumps, there are slides, grinds and stalls, which put demands on your deck in particular – the platform your feet stand on when you ride. And last but not least, you need good-quality griptape, because it wears much faster with aggressive riding and tricks than when you only use the scooter for transport.
WE HAVE EVERYTHING IN STUNT SCOOTER PARTS
At ScootWorld we are especially fond of stunt scooters. That is why you will also find every spare part you need as the various parts of your stunt scooter wear out. That way you can also build your very own scooter from scratch if you like.
When should I choose a stunt scooter?
Choose a stunt scooter if, for example, you have a bunch of friends who like to get together and learn new tricks, have fun and challenge and inspire each other. You can of course practise alone too. But stunt scooters and other forms of skating are very much about having fun together through physical activity, tricks and personal expression.

THREE-WHEELED SCOOTERS: THE BEST CHOICE FOR THE YOUNGEST
Three-wheeled models suit children who do not yet have the balance or the motor skills to steer a two-wheeled scooter. Steering a two-wheeled scooter naturally takes a bit of speed and a basic feel for balance. With a three-wheeled scooter, anyone can pick up the pace and get a really good feel for what it means to push off with your foot, stand on the scooter and ride away.
When a three-wheeled scooter is the better choice varies a great deal. As a parent you probably have the best feel for your child's motor skills. If your child is not quite ready to step onto a two-wheeled scooter yet, a three-wheeled scooter only strengthens and develops the skills your child needs, which also help in many other situations where your child moves and coordinates their movements.
When should I choose a three-wheeled scooter?
Choose a three-wheeled scooter when you or your child need to develop motor skills until they are good enough to handle a two-wheeled model. In some cases, though, starting on a two-wheeled scooter is a healthy challenge in itself. It is a bit like learning to ride a bike.

TRAMPOLINE SCOOTERS: FOR PRACTICE – OR JUST FOR FUN
Many people choose our popular trampoline scooters as an addition to their stunt scooter. They give you the chance to get good height on your jumps and practise different tricks and moves while landing on a soft, forgiving surface. It is also an enormously fun activity in itself.
